Tired of boring PowerPoint presentations on environmental reporting? Ready to experience nature instead of just reading about it? Join our one-day bootcamp that takes you out of the office and into the field, where you’ll not only learn about ESG reporting but live it. This is more than compliance—it's about engaging with the process, not just the outcome. Guided by EU Commission-recognized Green Deal experts, Dr. Sergej Lugović and Dr. Dušan Jelić, you’ll gain hands-on experience that will transform how you view your business's environmental impact. It’s time to turn reporting into an adventure!
Why:
In 2024, the CSRD regulation will become mandatory for 54 companies in Croatia. By 2025, an additional about 500 companies will be required to submit environmental reports as part of their annual reporting. This presents significant challenges for three key personas in organizations: the board member responsible for CSRD compliance, the reporting team, and the business information systems department tasked with gathering the necessary data.
Most companies will initially approach this as a compliance task. However, with these reports being public, companies will soon realize the importance of improving their environmental metrics. Our experience, backed by insights from recent HGK conferences, shows that the environmental part of ESG reporting is often the weakest.
We believe that reporting on environmental goals should go beyond numbers on a spreadsheet. As a team with expertise in biotechnology, business information systems, renewable energy, CO2 sequestration, machine learning, and AI, we use practical measurement tools daily. That's why we've created this bootcamp, designed to take participants out of the office and into nature, providing them with hands-on experience of the five ESRS environment topics. After all, trying to discuss environmental reporting in an office is like looking at pictures of food when you're hungry.
How:
This one-day bootcamp will take place in a beautiful natural setting, just an hour's drive from Zagreb. Participants will engage in exercises in a nearby grove, immersing themselves in nature while learning. Rather than boring PowerPoint presentations in air-conditioned offices that contribute to the very environmental issues being discussed, this experience will allow participants to directly engage with the environment they are reporting on.
Leading the bootcamp will be Dr. Sergej Lugović and Dr. Dušan Jelić, both recognized as EU Commission "Green Deal" experts in Croatia, with extensive academic and entrepreneurial backgrounds.
Dr. Dušan Jelić is a biologist whose company, Biota, develops innovative reforestation techniques using drones to plant seed bombs in hard-to-reach areas. His EU-funded projects focus on preserving biodiversity and addressing climate change through cutting-edge biotechnology.
Dr. Sergej Lugović is a professor, entrepreneur, and DJ, who has developed green urban solutions in Croatia. His projects focus on sustainable food production, digital transformation, and creative uses of technology to foster environmental awareness.
Participants will take part in hands-on exercises that make environmental data relatable:
Electricity Consumption (kWh): Participants will understand the connection between electricity consumption and CO2 emissions, using biomass to visualize how much is needed to offset these emissions.
Air Quality: Using data on emissions per kilometer, participants will visualize CO2 emissions in cubic meters using balloons.
Water Usage: Participants will draw water from a nearby river to visualize the average water consumption per person.
Biodiversity: Participants will “destroy” a few square meters of the grove to understand the impact of urban development on natural habitats and how it ties into office spaces.
Circular Economy: Through storytelling, we’ll explore how the forest naturally applies circular economy principles.
What:
The bootcamp consists of five one-hour exercises, during which participants will experience:
The relationship between kWh consumption and biomass.
The link between air pollution and transportation emissions.
The vast amounts of water used daily.
The impact of office buildings on biodiversity.
How natural ecosystems reuse resources in a circular economy.
After the exercises, participants will reflect on their experiences and discuss how the lessons apply to their business operations. The day will conclude with networking, local food, and drinks, set against the backdrop of a beautiful river view.
