The Kostya vertical farming system overview

The Kostya vertical farming system, developed by Vesela Motika, is utilized in our indoor farm in Zagreb. This modular system can be adapted to various uses, with its primary design catering to microgreens, herbs, cuttings, and seedlings. It features a classical Danish trolley construction, an industry standard in horticulture found globally, practically at every farmers' market in every country. Through our research, development, and numerous trials in the last few years, we have optimized the system using high-end LED luminaries. These luminaries can be selected in two different wavelengths. The system utilizes CC trays that sit on the shelves, and within these CC trays, smaller trays can be employed. The basic unit measures 135 cm x 56.5 cm x 190 cm (LxWxH). Other options are available, integrating trays from seeders, which can be seamlessly incorporated into the system. We welcome custom-made solutions to meet specific needs."

Option 1

  • 3 grow levels per Kostya Grow System

  • 1 Kostya system includes:
    •
        • 3 growing levels
        • 3 CC Trays => dimensions 1260 mm x 555mm
        • 4 x 20x10 Trays per growing level in CC tray (dimensions 508 mm x 254mm), 12 in total per grow cycle
        • 1 x 35W LED luminaire per grow level
        • Electricity per hour per growing light in total = 105W per hour

    Option 2 - 4 Grow Levels

    1 Kostya system includes:

      • 4 growing levels
      • 4 CC Trays => dimensions 1260 mm x 555mm
      • 4 x 20x10 Trays per growing level in CC tray (dimensions 508 mm x 254mm), 16 in total per grow cycle
      • 1 x 35W LED luminaire per grow level
      • Electricity per hour per growing light in total = 140W per hour

    Option 3 - 6 Grow Levels (Based on two LED luminaires per growing level with power supply adapted to microgreens resulting in optimised electricity consumption power for 50%)

    1 Kostya system includes:

  • 6 growing levels
    •
  • 6 CC Trays => dimensions 1260 mm x 555mm
    •
  • 4 x 20x10 Trays per growing level in CC tray (dimensions 508mm x 254mm), 24 in total per grow cycle
    •
  • 2 x 35W LED luminaires per grow level (with possible reduction to 50%)
    •
  • Electricity per hour per growing light in total = 210W per hour

    • Herbs Grow Options

    For the purpose of growing herbs, we have determined that the carry tray with 18 x 9cm rounded pots is the best solution. Of course, depending on the client's needs, carry trays with the same dimensions could hold:

    In the Kostya system, it is possible to place 5 Carry Trays per CC tray per growing floor. Options include 18x9cm, 12x10cm, and 8x12cm.

    There are options with three and six growing floors 

    Three growing floors capacity is 

    • 270 x 9 cm pots
    • 180 x 10cm pots
    • 120 x 12cm pots

    Six Growing Floor capacity is

    • 540 x 9 cm pots
    • 360 x 10cm pots
    • 240 x 12cm pots
